Mars Hill University started its BSN program at the Judge-McRae School of Nursing in 2015. As a new program, one of the things the faculty sought to provide for their students was some of the medical education equipment they would need in classrooms and clinical rotations -- and an easy way to transport everything.

Associate Professor Chuck Tucker, DNP, RN, CNE, worked with the Pocket Nurse Tote Team to get the bag they wanted. “We were looking for a student tote that would serve to provide our students their initial nursing equipment, as well as the supplies the student would need in the skills lab and the simulation lab for the semester.”

After extensive research into products available at several companies, Tucker decided to go with Pocket Nurse. He says, “The key point with Pocket Nurse was their willingness to work with us to create a custom tote, and to find a tote that would be beneficial for the students to use during clinical.”

When MHU wasn’t happy with the available totes, Emily McCandless, Pocket Nurse tote specialist, took the time to find alternatives. And that extra step made a big difference.

“We have been extremely impressed by the personal service we receive from Pocket Nurse,” Tucker says. In addition to totes, he continues, “We’ve received the introduction to other services and products that we can purchase for our department. Another benefit we’ve enjoyed is knowing that they are willing to go the extra mile to meet our needs.”

The MHU nursing tote is a messenger-style bag with room for basic nursing student equipment, such as a stethoscope, pen light, blood pressure cuff, and bandage scissors. The bag has room for a laptop computer and reference texts as well.

“The bag is professional and neat with easy recognition that the student is from Mars Hill University,” Tucker points out. Students can have their name embroidered on the flap next to the university logo as well.

“Thank you for a great purchasing experience!” Tucker says. “As a result, we’ve worked to build a relationship and expanded to purchase other equipment from Pocket Nurse.”
